“Lauren James is a genius at building tension.” SFX Magazine
“James is one to watch.“ Kirkus Reviews
How would it feel to be the last remaining human? Lowrie and Shen are the youngest people in the world after a virus caused global infertility. When the virus mutates to become even more deadly, the pair face a future entirely alone unless they can find a cure. But how can two teenagers succeed where the great scientists have failed? It feels as though there is no hope for humanity until they discover a secret that turns their entire world upside-down.

Reviews
This is just such a beautiful book about family, love, and humanity, and I highly recommend it
Written Word Worlds
As well as the riveting storyline there is much to reflect upon in this novel about such questions as the definition of ‘life’, the human condition, prejudices, selfishness as well selflessness and above all the true meaning of family and love. It is truly a remarkable book and one which I unreservedly recommend to able readers from around twelve years up.
Just So Stories
The Quiet at the End of the World has plenty of twists and turns, plenty of moments that make you ponder life, the future of the human race and what it means to be alive, what it means to truly live!

Highly recommended. This engrossing story would make a great class novel or literature circle text, giving participants lots of discussion points about the meaning of life, family and love.

This was awesome! The world building was great and I loved the juxtaposition of the very futuristic assistant robots in a world that has become over grown and essentially “taken back” by nature. The writing style was incredible. It honestly just felt quiet, like we were right there at the end of the world while reading. IN-CRE-DI-BLE.

Lauren James has created a story that weaves the what ifs into a possible future reality and will leave you questioning what decisions the reader would make in the same situation.
Kids' Book Review
I definitely recommend this book for any sci-fi lovers that love a good dystopian setting too with great characters and world building.

Excellent science fiction that feels like normal life. But is it? Well structured with old facebook and Twitter like comments from Maya and friends feeding the historical information. Great environmental message for the future

James has tackled some deep philosophical questions in this book, but with an exceptionally light hand. These themes are deftly woven through a story that has real depth, without being ponderous or preachy, and has a few plot twists that certainly took me by surprise! Refreshingly, this is a stand alone novel, with a satisfying conclusion… Highly recommended
