A beautifully written and illustrated collection of Greek myths containing seventeen famous tales full of love, loss, greed, envy and bravery.
Beautifully written by Ann Turnbull and illustrated by Sarah Young, this collection of seventeen Greek myths is truly something to treasure. The timeless stories of Theseus and the Minotaur, Persephone, King Midas, Ariadne, Orpheus and Eurydice, and Echo and Narcissus are told with great freshness and there is a good balance between the gentler myths and the ones packed with battles and monsters. A wonderful collection and a wonderful introduction to the fascinating world of Greek mythology, brought to life by one of our finest writers and an exciting new illustrator.
Ann Turnbull has written more than 30 books and stories, including picture books and short fiction, but she is best known for her novels. Some of her most notable achievements include, No Shame, No Fear, which was shortlisted for the Whitbread Children's Book Award as well as the Guardian Fiction Prize. Its sequels, Forged in the Fire and Pigeon Summer, were both shortlisted for the Smarties Book Prize and the WH Smith Mind-Boggling Books Award.
Sarah Young is a painter, printmaker and illustrator. She has worked as an illustrator for many years and is best known for her black and white scraperboard work. Sarah has exhibited her prints and paintings at many galleries and exhibitions around the country.
It is a delightful read which hopefully will whet young readers’ appetites and encourage them to explore further the wealth of entertaining material to be found in classical mythology.
