Rachel Hickman
Rachel Hickman has been a publisher for almost 30 years, working with some of the best known children’s authors such as Dick King Smith and Roald Dahl. In 2000, she set up independent publisher Chicken House, alongside Barry Cunningham, famed for ‘discovering’ J.K. Rowling. Chicken House has gone on to great success and critical acclaim, discovering and developing the talents of many well-known authors, such as M.G. Leonard and Kiran Millwood Hargrave. An editorial discussion about the lack of non ‘issue-based’ publishing for teenagers led Rachel to turn a lifetime of devouring books into her first foray as an author. One Silver Summer draws on Rachel’s love of horses, of Cornwall, and also the slightly alienating experience of having grown up in Hong Kong.
