A tender, age-appropriate story in which a grandchild grapples with the memory loss of a beloved abuela
A child loves that her Abuela lives with her family, but Abuela’s memory isn’t what it used to be. Sometimes she’ll start telling stories and won’t be able to finish them. Eventually, the time comes for her to move out. Home feels lonely without Abuela. However, when the family visits Abuela in her new room, the grandchild discovers a beautiful old quilt, with each square containing the story of a missing memory. Monica Rojas and Luisa Uribe deliver a heartfelt story about the love and shared experiences that bring families together, even in the hardest of times.
Creators
Monica Rojas is a bilingual queer Chilean-American who engages communities through writing and artistic practices with magical realism, joy, and play. She is a member of SCBWI and she has created many interactive art installations. She is based in Minnesota.
Luisa Uribe is an illustrator living in Bogotá, Colombia. Luisa's primary passion is children's books, although she is regularly inspired by the world around her and seeks ways to include these observations in her illustrations.
