Creators

If she could, Tania McCartney would live inside a book, and as an author, illustrator and editor—she kind of already does. Tania has 30 years experience in magazines and publishing, and has 40 books in print or production.

After working in the publishing industry sales world for many years, Jess Racklyeft jumped ship a few years ago to follow her dream of illustrating rather than selling books. She’s illustrated eight picture books including SCBWI Crystal Kite Award winner and CBCA Notable Book, Smile Cry, and several other titles including If Baby Could Talk and Love Was Hiding with Windy Hollow Books.

Reviews

Teachers and parents will easily see the possibilities with a book like Hip Hip Hooray! The use of language could be analysed, especially the many different verbs. The places the animals are from could be explored and investigated, not to mention the different kinds of animals themselves! And, of course, children could talk about and share their own experiences of birthdays.

Reading Time

McCartney’s use of language is delightful and delicious, with every word a treat to read. The anticipation is beautifully built, taking the reader along for the rollicking ride. For added razzle-dazzle, you can even download a free DreemAR App and see the pages come to life. There’s so much joy in this book, it’s enough to make those of us who have started to dread birthdays, slap on a party hat and send up our own cheer — hip hip hooray!
