Twins Scarlett and Thomas have been learning about the Victorians at school. Their grandad lets them use his time machine to travel back. Scarlett finds herself accompanying none other than Princess Victoria to the grand opening of the Great Exhibition. Alongside the royal family, Scarlett gets to marvel at the amazing glass structure and the inventions from all over the world.
Thomas befriends Jenny, daughter of the revolutionary Karl Marx, together they try to sneak into the Great Exhibition, but it goes very wrong when they tumble through a window into the ladies toilets and, after much screaming, are marched off to prison by the guards.
Will Scarlett ever be able to persuade the genteel Princess Victoria to go to the prison and free Thomas?

Josh Lacey is the author of many books for children including The Dragonsitter, the Hope Jones series and the Grk series. He has worked as a journalist and written one book for adults, God is Brazilian. His first book for children, A Dog Called Grk, was shortlisted for the Branford Boase Award. Josh lives in London with his wife and daughters.
Garry Parsons is an award-winning illustrator of books for children, including the bestselling The Dinosaur That Pooped series. Garry’s illustrations have accompanied the words of many prestigious picture-book authors, including Kes Gray, Ian Whybrow and Peter Bently. He has also illustrated the popular fiction series The Dragonsitter by Josh Lacey and the space adventure series George’s Secret Key to the Universe by Lucy and Stephen Hawking for slightly older readers. Garry lives in London with his young family and old dog.
