Creators
Zanni Louise is passionate about writing quality books for children and inspiring people to write their own stories. Zanni has written 16 books for children, including picture books and junior fiction. Her books have been described as quirky, warm and funny, and are sold in many foreign territories. She’s been twice listed in the CBCA Notables, and her picture book Archie and the Bear was selected for the highly prestigious international children’s catalogue: The White Ravens.
Tony Flowers is a scribble-o-holic and international award-winning illustrator. His love for illustration and storytelling spans over 50 books including early reader chapter books and picture books that have sold around the world. Tony fills his drawings with humour and interesting details. His passion for his motorcycles, cars, cats and dogs shows in his drawings, which are often found hiding in the backgrounds of his works.

With warm rhyming text and wonderfully detailed illustrations that reminded me of Richard Scarry, this is a book that opens the door to conversations about belonging and the many ways we can find our place in the world. I can imagine this being read in classrooms during units on community and belonging but it’s just as lovely to share at home. A thoughtful reminder that no matter what our community looks like, we all have a place within one and we belong to more than we think we do!

Zanni’s rhyming is spot on – beautifully cadenced and gently persuasive and Tony’s illustrations – so rich in details! – will keep your Smalls poring over each page many, many times to spot each tiny new discovery. This is honestly one of the loveliest picture books I’ve seen this year and while the message is overt, it is not in the least didactic. I love it and it’s a 5 star rating for readers of all ages from EC upwards.

We love the little moments of rhyme that made the read aloud sound even more special. We also quite liked all the practical and pragmatic ways to get along with those that are in our immediate communities – from our sports teams to our school friends, and more. And how powerful of Zanni to include ways to communicate with those that we do not see eye to eye with. Quite clever to introduce us to this concept! Finally, we adored the snail endpapers – they are our Mummy’s favourite little creature!
