Fantasy & Magical Realism Humorous Stories

A hilarious modern fairy-tale mash-up set in a world in which witches are real, magic is real and fairy tales are not only real ... but recent history.

Once Upon a Modern Time, in the city of Rexopolis, in the Kingdom of Illustria, lived twelve-year-old Roxy Humperdinck, half-sister to Hansel and Gretel (yes, THE Hansel and Gretel, not that she knows it). Enter Cinderella ("Call me Jones") Jones, who most definitely does NOT want to marry ghastly Prince Charming and is far too busy hunting for lost relics of the Cursed Kingdom. But now she needs Roxy’s help. And Roxy’s about to discover the truth about her world and her family: that witches are real, magic is real and fairy tales are not only real ... but recent history.

Creators

Angela Woolfe is the author of the Avril Crump trilogy as well as a series of magical adventures for younger readers under the pseudonym Emerald Everheart. She is married with one young daughter, who is even more obsessed with fairy tales than she is. Angela lives in Wimbledon.

Reviews

Roxy and Jones are smart and sassy heroines and I enjoyed their camaraderie and witty banter.

Kids' Book Review

Woolfe dresses a clever mash-up of fairy tales in an exuberant excess of bureucratese, modern pop culture and period fantasy detail

Magpies

There is plenty happening in this rather complicated but very enjoyable story. The dialogue is slick and clever – just right for those young readers with minds for mix-ups, knowledge of fairy-tales, and good senses of humour. They will love it!

ReadPlus

This is a series that straddles the known of the fairytale world with the blurry borders of fantasy for those who want to delve into a magical world but still need to have a foot in the world of reality and what they know
