Where's Leopold? 1: Your Pajamas Are Showing!

By Michel-Yves Schmitt
Illustrated by Vincent Caut

Series is a little younger than some of the other titles on the list., Two volumes are available with two more planned for 2013-14., Hilarious. Even the fart jokes.

Six-year-old Leopold doesn't want to go to school one morning. Luckily, it's also the morning he discovers he can turn invisible. His only problem is that he hasn't figured out how to turn his clothes invisible too. Having visible underwear gets in the way of the pranks he'd like to play. Instead of looting banks, working for the CIA, or joining a major crime syndicate (all of which occur to his older sister, Celine, who also hopes he might get swept off by the government for secret experiments and cloning), Leopold uses his new talent to get extra dessert, exact playground justice, perplex his parents. The occasional fart jokes are unexpectedly funny when the sound effects are in French. Leopold and Celine squabble, make mistakes, get jealous of each other, and work it all out ... more or less. Leopold discovers along the way that it helps to have his older sister as an ally-but the rivalry is sure to go on. The last page is a "can you spot the difference?" puzzle of Celine's room before and after invisible Leopold has whirled through it.

  • Simple layout, simple text.
  • Only 32 pages, won't overwhelm young readers.
  • Very boy friendly.
