Scar Girl

By Len Vlahos

A page-turning, unflinchingly painful and partially redemptive sequel to Scar Boys that shows the devastating personal cost of fame.

Chey, Harry, and Richie tell their own stories about the ups and downs of being successful rock musicians. As the band grows in fame, the friends grow more distant, and misunderstandings and emotional meltdowns begin to tear them apart. Chey has a miscarriage but can't tell Johnny she was even pregnant, turning to alcohol instead as a way to cope; Harry wants to leave the band; and Johnny slips into a depression. The band's refusal to be honest with each other leads to dire consequences, and the book ends with Johnny's suicide. Ultimately music saves the remaining three, but all carry the scars of the shattering events.

  • Sequel to Scar Boys, which was a William Morris finalist, received a starred SLJ review, and extensive praise from the NYT, Kirkus, Peter Buck of REM, and countless others.
  • Unflinchingly honest look at how friendships are tested and broken by growing public fame.
  • Deals head-on with difficult and topical subjects like teen pregnancy, depression, alcoholism, and suicide.
