Luis Paints the World

By Terry Farish
Illustrated by Oliver Dominguez

A poetic and richly painted story of the bond between brothers, the bustle of a Dominican community in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and the complex gains and sacrifices of military families.

Nico doesn't have to join the Army to see the world?that's what younger brother Luis tries to show by painting a mural on the alley wall in their Dominican neighborhood. But in Nico's absence, Luis's world expands along with the mural as family and neighbors add to the painting. Over a year, Luis grows anxious for his brother's safe return.
