Sales and Marketing Coordinator

Walker Books Australia has been bringing the best of children’s publishing to Australian children for over 20 years and is a market leader in quality children’s books.
We are searching for a Sales and Marketing Coordinator to join our sales and marketing team in this newly created role to aid in the execution of campaigns and provide team support in a friendly work environment.

Tasks include:

  • Managing, producing and distributing sales and marketing material
  • Highly responsible management of sales and marketing communications internally and externally
  • Creating sales and marketing reports, submissions and presentations
  • Management of key internal and external sales and marketing documents
  • Writing marketing copy and managing metadata
  • Providing a high level of support to the sales and marketing team
  • Organisation of internal conferences
  • Administrative duties including meeting management and phone and post duties
  • And more

Essential Qualifications/Requirements

This position is ideal for an experienced sales, marketing or office assistant/support looking for the next step in their career. Our ideal applicant will:

  • Be highly computer literate, with extensive experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe InDesign
  • Have exceptional attention to detail and be an experienced problem solver
  • Be comfortable working independently and in a team, meeting varied deadlines across departments and coping under pressure
  • 12+ months experience in an sales/marketing/office assistant/support role desirable
  • Experience writing copy desirable
  • Experience in the publishing industry/bookstores is desirable but not essential
  • Be organised, self-motivated and a critical thinker
  • Have relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Have a love of reading!

Work Experience:

Placements for 2018 are full, applications for 2019 are now open.

Walker Books’ Publishing and Editorial Work Experience Program assists students in meeting their educational requirements, developing and enhancing their skills and knowledge while experiencing the ‘real’ world of work.

Based in Sydney, NSW, this Publishing and Editorial internship provides an introduction to the Publishing Industry, focusing on publishing and editorial responsibilities.

Publishing and Editorial:
• Read and comment on manuscript submissions
• Check page proofs and ebook files
• Assist designers with scanning of art and picture research
• Assist editors with fact checking and proofreading
• Assist with general admin tasks relating to the publishing team.
• Assist sales, marketing and publicity departments ad hoc where required

Program Structure:
• The standard duration of the program is 2 days per week for up to 8 weeks, negotiable.
• Participants will be assigned a mentor who will be their main point of contact during their work experience.

Conditions of Program:
• Participants must have an endorsement from their school/uni/programs. This internship must be recognised as part of their training/studies.
• Personal injury insurance for the student must be covered by the relevant education institute or program.
• This is an unpaid internship program
