Candlewick Press and the Walker Books Group has today announced the forthcoming publication of a new book for young readers by two-time Newbery Award winner DiCamillo entitled La La La: A Story of Hope, illustrated by #1 New York Times bestselling artist Jaime Kim, to be published in September 2017. The deal for world rights was brokered with Holly McGhee at Pippin Properties by Karen Lotz, President and Publisher of Candlewick Press, who will edit. The book will be designed by Candlewick’s creative director and associate publisher, Chris Paul. Jaime Kim was represented by Claire Easton at Painted Words.
A nearly wordless picture book, La La La follows a lonely young girl as she journeys from one fantastical world into another, sharing her own unique song in a poignant quest for friendship and connection. Its powerful and timeless message of hope will inspire and move readers of all ages.
Working from Kate DiCamillo's unique story concept, Jaime Kim's rich and graphic illustrations bring this universally appealing tale beautifully to life. This will be the first picture book release for DiCamillo in nearly ten years.
“This tender and evocative picture book from Kate and Jaime provides a timely reminder to all of us that one of the best ways to bring about harmony in our world is simply to reach out to one another and share our stories – as Kate loves to say, ‘Stories connect us,’” said Karen Lotz, President and Publisher of Candlewick Press, and Managing Director of the Walker Books Group.
