Lugalbanda: The Boy Who Got Caught up in a War

By Kathy Henderson
Illustrated by Jane Ray

The oldest written story in the world becomes the ultimate storybook!

From the land we now call Iraq comes the story of a young prince’s extraordinary adventures. On his way to war with his older brothers, Lugalbanda meets the goddess Inana and the magical Anzu bird, which gives him the power to be strong, tireless and to run like lightning. Lugalbanda uses his new powers to help resolve the war peacefully and goes on to become a great ruler.

  • Older than the Bible, the Koran and the Greek and Roman myths, this story was discovered written on ancient clay tablets and was deciphered by scholars from around the world.
  • One of the Top 10 Children's Books of the Year in the Washington Post, 2006.
