About the author
John Ryan was born in Edinburgh and has a lifelong fascination with ships and sailing. He was educated in England and then spent the Second World War fighting in Burma. When he returned to Britain he worked for a number of years as Assistant Art Master at Harrow School, before beginning his new career as a children’s book writer and illustrator, and producer of the Pugwash television programmes.
