About the author

Rosemary Sutcliff is widely regarded as one of the finest children’s writers of the twentieth century. Her novel "The Lantern Bearers" won the Carnegie Medal in 1959, while "The Eagle of the Ninth", "The Shield Ring", "The Silver Branch", "Warrior Scarlet" and "Tristan and Iseult" have all received Carnegie Medal Commendations. She was honoured with the CBE in 1992, for services to children’s literature.
