Sharon Holt
Sharon Holt grew up in Auckland, but now lives in Kihikihi just south of Te Awamutu in the Waikato. She can't remember a time when she didn't dream of writing children's books. Sharon trained and worked as a teacher and journalist before rediscovering picture books as the mother of two toddlers 10 years ago. Since then, she has written many educational books for Learning Media in NZ and Cengage Learning in Australia. Her book on how to write jokes called It's True...You can make your own Jokes, published by Allen & Unwin, was a finalist in the non-fiction category for the 2007 New Zealand Post Book Awards for Children & Young Adults.
She has also written two books for Scholastic's popular My Story series. Her picture book entry in the 2010 awards was inspired when her children came home from school saying they'd learned that mother sharks sometimes ate their babies. The idea for Your Mother Didn't Do That! was born in that moment.
