Rose Quilter grew up in Auckland in a large and boisterous family. From an early age she was fascinated by languages, and went on to study French, German and Spanish at Auckland University. At the suggestion of a friend, she tried her hand at writing readers for teenage boys. This was followed by stories for The School Magazine
and The School Journal
. She currently lives in Auckland with her partner Tony and their three children. The Slice
is her first novel and was short-listed for the 2012 LIANZA Junior Fiction Award
