Richard Kidd studied painting at Newcastle University between 1970 and 1974, then took up a scholarship at the British School at Rome. After several years' teaching at Newcastle University he went to America in 1980, spending a year in San Francisco and six years in New York on a Harkness Fellowship. He has exhibited both in London and San Francisco. His other books for Frances Lincoln are "Monsieur Thermidor" and "Lobsters in Love".
