Dennis Hamley studied English at Cambridge University before gaining a PhD and an Advanced Diploma in Education. He worked as a teacher, a lecturer, an English course advisor and a creative writing tutor before becoming a full-time writer. He has a particular fascination with World War I and has written numerous novels and histories for children, including "Pageants of Despair" and "Very Far From Here", and is also the author of the "Joslin De Lay Mysteries" series (and many others) for Point Crime.
