We are searching for an experienced full-time editor to join our innovative team of outstanding creators to help produce the highest quality illustrated children’s picture books and outstanding fiction and non-fiction titles in a friendly, flexible work environment.

Essential Qualifications/Requirements
• A graduate degree
• Extensive hands-on editorial experience in publishing
• Excellent written and presentation skills
• Incomparable communication and interpersonal skills
• An eye for detail
• The ability to manage complex projects calmly and methodically
• A deep understanding of the publishing industry.

Organised and self-motivated, you are comfortable working independently, meeting deadlines and coping under pressure. You are a voracious reader, value your creative partnership with your colleagues and have a love of children’s books.

Walker Books Australia Seeks Publicity Manager

Walker Books Australia is a part of the Walker Books Group, one of the world’s leading independent publishers, recognised worldwide for its truly original publishing and outstanding quality.

• We are searching for a highly motivated Publicity Manager, one who will recognise and drive opportunities for our authors, illustrators, and brands. You will be in charge of developing and delivering the publicity strategy and plans for our key brands, authors and illustrators as well as implementing them.

• You will work closely with the marketing, publishing and sales teams, collaborating throughout the publicity process, ensuring we deliver our publicity plans and PR activities. This is a hands-on role requiring someone to manoeuvre between campaigns, international tours, events and also manage the Publicist and delegate the department’s activities, ensuring the day-to-day is met.

• At Walker Books Australia we have a highly collaborative approach and we are looking for someone of similar mind. The Walker Group functions in a uniquely singular way and our collaborative culture extends throughout the Group in London and Boston. Our Publicity Manager needs to build upon and nurture our publicity relationships within the Group.

Ideally our Publicity Manager will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience or 5 years’ experience specific to the book publishing industry; established connections and proven success; and a desire to expand our publicity reach.

Work Experience:

Walker Books’ Work Experience Program assists students in meeting their educational requirements, developing and enhancing their skills and knowledge while experiencing the ‘real’ world of work.
This internship provides a well-rounded introduction to the Publishing Industry, focusing on publishing and editorial, marketing and publicity.

Publishing and Editorial:
• Read and comment on manuscript submissions
• Check page proofs and ebook files
• Assist designers with scanning of art and picture research
• Assist editors with fact checking and proofreading
• Assist with general admin tasks relating to the publishing team.

Marketing and Publicity:
• Assist the Marketing and Publicity Assistant with ad hoc tasks (processing returns, Point of Sale orders, donation fulfilment, etc)
• Generate consumer-facing content for microsites and social media.
• Assist the School and Library Manager, Trade and Consumer Marketing Manager and Publicity team with any additional tasks ad hoc

Program Structure:
• The duration of the program can be up to 8 weeks.
• Hours are flexible and can be negotiated - a commitment of at least 2 days per week is ideal.
• Participants will be assigned a mentor who will be their main point of contact during their work experience.

Conditions of Program:
• Participants must have an endorsement from their school/uni/programs. This internship must be recognised as part of their training/studies.
• Personal injury insurance for the student must be covered by the relevant education institute or program.
• This is an unpaid internship program
